The eighth annual Motor State Challenge once again saw Pro-Touring competitors travel to southwest Michigan for the three days of cruising and competition. Entrants throughout the United States continue to make this event a must attend destination for performance enthusiasts.
Along with the excitement of turning laps during the Friday track session at Gingerman Raceway in South Haven, Michigan and the Saturday autocross competition at Tire Rack in South Bend, Indiana, the event also featured a Thursday evening forty-mile cruise. The ride featured an escort from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department that concluded at Mahogany Outfitters, a wooden boat museum in Cassopolis, Michigan and featured a made from scratch dinner prepared by Lakeview Diner, a 50s style diner built in the heart of the museum.
Another big hit of the Challenge was the Royal Purple and Quickcar sponsored ice cream social after the track sessions on Friday. It was the perfect way to cool down after a long day at the track as hotter than normal temperatures were blasting the area.
At the conclusion of the event on Saturday, the awards presentation featured a variety of custom labeled selections from Round Barn Winery in Baroda, Michigan. See below for full list of results.
Overall seventy competitors competed in both phases of the competition as well as the cruise.
The 2016 edition of the Motor State Challenge was sponsored in part by: Motor State Distributing, Lane Automotive, Allstar Performance, Quickcar, Tire Rack, Detroit Speed, Ridetech, Pro-Touring G-Machines, Optima Batteries, Lateral G, Aeromotive, Holley, Royal Purple, Aeroquip, ARP, Wilwood, Magnaflow, Autometer, Russell, MSD Performance, Edelbrock, Hedman Headers, K&N, Air Lift, B&M, C&R Racing Products, Hooker Headers, Centerforce, Weld Racing, Painless, Hawk Performance and Maxima Racing Oils.
Once again a special thanks goes to the South Bend Region of the SCCA for all the support and hard work ensuring the track day and the autocross competitions were safe as well as fun for everyone involved.
